Overcoming Fear of Failure

Someone recently asked how I ‘overcame’ my fear of putting myself our there and I think she was a little surprised at my response of “ummm…I haven’t actually.”

I still get the sweats every single time I post a video, every single time I share an invitation to workshop and every single time I host a live event.

It’s still very unnatural for me to ‘put myself out there’ in a big way (after over a decade in PR you kinda get used to being a behind-the-scenes girl, pulling the strings!), but here’s the thing I’ve come to realise on this entrepreneurial journey…it’s actually not about me!

Anytime I start to feel the fear I’ve decided to stop thinking about my weight and less than perfect skin on camera or even how people will judge me (and yes they will!), and replace those negative fears with this one DM that a young black girl sent me a few months back …thank you Irene. I needed to hear that today. It’s so inspiring to see a woman like me out here doing big things – I am SO HAPPY that I found you!”

You see, I literally saw ZERO British black female role models outside of entertainment growing up. I mean ZERO. (And to be honest, things aren’t that much better now, but at least there’s a handful that I can draw upon from the states when I need a little motivation injection!)

I realised there and then that I need to find a way to get over myself and get on with my mission - and part of that mission is sharing knowledge, advice and motivation to the one person who may need to hear it.

Why am I sharing this?

In this video as I’ve shared some concrete, practical steps on how to identify the negative and positive fears and dig deeper into how they may be holding you back so that you to find a way (sooner rather than later!) to release the fears that may be holding you back from what it is you really want to create for your life. Quite often the business you want to create is so much bigger than you - even if you can’t see it right now. Just wait and see.

I look forward to reading your comments below.
